Renting a house in Marlborough can be a competitive business. It’s important to keep your eyes peeled for new property listings on a daily basis. You’ll also want to arrange a viewing for any properties that appeal fairly swiftly.
At Bayleys Marlborough Property Management we’re keen to help you find the best possible home to rent. We give FREE advice to tenants to help you get a great rental property. We can also let you know what information landlords usually require before accepting a new tenant. But it’s not all about the landlord. We know you’ll have questions too. So, in this week’s article we thought we’d share a few of questions you might want to ask when you’re viewing a rental.
Five questions to ask when you’re thinking of renting a house.
What’s the property’s rental history like?
If the property has been rented before, it’s always a good idea to ask why the previous tenants are leaving. If it’s brand new to the market you might want to find out how long the owners are looking to rent it for.
What’s the long term plan?
If you’re looking for a long-term rental you’ll definitely want to ask this one. If the property owners are overseas for a six month period, it might not be the right rental for you. But we can help you find the right one!
Is it insulated, and can I use the fireplace?
Yes, we’re still in the midst of summer in Marlborough. But in a couple of months things are going to start cooling off. So, don’t forget to ask how warm the property is. You might even ask what the property’s average fuel bill is like in winter.
Who takes care of maintenance?
If the property has a garden, it’s generally the tenants responsibility to maintain it. But this is definitely something you should ask about. You’ll also want to know who to call if something needs fixing during your tenancy. At Bayleys Marlborough Property Management we offer our landlords a complete property management service. That means one of our team will likely be your first point of contact for repairs, emergency or otherwise.
Can I bring my four-legged friend?
If you’re a pet owner you need to consider whether the rental property is suitable for you and your fur baby. Some of our landlords are happy with pets, but this is often by negotiation.
